Apologies George.J, I updated the K-Lite Codec Pac 955 Mega BEFORE I downloaded the most recent version of Potplayer (mine is a clone copy of your Potplayer) & everything worked well for 5 days. On the 6th day I had NO sound, & upon ur suggestion, I REMOVED the K-Lite Codec Pack, cleaned my system, ran antivrus on my system, tried Potplayer w/o success, whereas sounds worked well on everything else in my sys. Par example my media player prior to Potplayer, VLC, worked well in the past & is still doing well today as I downloaded A Korean Hist. Movie with Subtitle options & everything worked well. LOUD & CLEAR & in English.

It's just that I'd like to completely change to Potplayer, I like the way it operates with ALL working bells & whistles. Tried the same movie on Potplayer & it has no sound Thx for the urls re Vista, have had no probs with it until Potplayer. I had no audio for some file formats. I read this topic and I changed the porplayermini64.exe to potplayermini642.exe.
And now I have sound. Do you know what happened that I encountered this problem? I also have another question: I installed the latest version of both 32bit and 64bit of potplayer, but the only.exe file is potplayermini.exe There was a potplayer.exe in installation folder recently, but I can't find it now. I also reinstalled it, but not found. How can I have both mini and normal file? I had no audio for some file formats. I read this topic and I changed the porplayermini64.exe to potplayermini642.exe.
And now I have sound. Do you know what happened that I encountered this problem?
The reason that you had no sound was because you set the mixer value corresponding to PotPlayer application to 0. You see the speaker icon in the tray, to the bottom rightmost of the screen?
Click on it, and then click Mixer. Scroll around to see the applications and look for PotPlayer. It was earlier set to zero. When you rename an application, it will set the Mixer value for that to default.
You can rename potplayermini642.exe back to potplayermini64.exe (else it might conflict with update), and simply set the Mixer value accordingly. I have similar problem - PotPlayer doesn't play audio stream in MKV files. I'm using PotPlayer Portable 1.6.5148 32-bit on Win7 with Realtek onboard sound card.
I've got Expression Encoder 3 + IIS Smooth Streaming installed on my Win7 RTM machine (I downloaded both Win7 and Expression as part of my MSDN membership). When I import a wtv file recorded with Windows Media Center into Expression, it gives me an error: Error: Cannot find audio codec: Unknown Value 46adbd28-6fd0-4796-93b2-155c51dc048d This seems to only happen on files that have Dolby Digital/AC3. Back when my machine was running Vista and Expression 2.0, I remember having problems with wtv files in Expression because of Dolby Digital AC3, which I was able to solve by installing AC3Filter. However, I was under the impression that Expression Encoder 3 added support for Dolby Digital/AC3, thus making AC3Filter (or other such solutions) un-necessary. Clwood, Please install our latest QFE, we fixed a problem with our product regarding WTV files, which should be natively supported now with our 'Encoder 3 with IIS Smooth Streaming' SKU on Windows7, which is the only supported platform for WTV files. Otherwise, you'll need to have a DShow AC3 filter for those files to import if you don't use our 'IIS Smooth Streaming' version.
Are you trying to import those WTV files on another platform than Windows7? Are they by any chance protected content?
Which SKU of Encoder are you using? Just to clarify: we do support non-AC3 WTV files out of the box on all our SKUs, but obviously an AC3 filter is required for WTV files containing AC3. The 'IIS Smooth Streaming' SKU ships with one, which enables full WTV file support. Otherwise, you have to supply your own. Nonetheless, I agree with you that the wording in the QFE download page is a little confusing and will request we change it so that we don't mislead any users. Thanks for pointing that out.
Ac3 Codec For Mx Player
I've also updated the FAQ on this forum to reflect that piece of information. You need the proper audio codecs to have your source showing 5.1. You may have to try different configurations by disabling all the AC3 codecs but one in the Options-Compatibility to get it to get imported as 5.1. If the media item list shows 'Stereo', that means your AC3 codec is doing the 5.1-Stereo conversion and all we can do is taking the data and upmixing it into 5.1, a little bit like Pro Logic would do. So, getting the file to be imported as 5.1 will be the way to fix this. All that being said, I'm not aware that Silverlight currently support 5.1 playback, so all this effort might be for naught (Silverlight will accept a 5.1 SS source, but will downmix to Stereo for playback). Just wanted you to be aware.
6 The QT AC3 Codec solves issues that you may have with audio in AVI video files, particularly if you find you can't play AC3 files. Even if AC3 doesn't sound familiar to you, you definitely have used it before as it essentially is Dolby Digital. AC3 is the sound version that you commonly find in AVI, DivX 5.2.1 and XviD files. The technology has evolved extremely quickly over the last few years though and you probably won't have as much trouble playing AC3 files than before. This and the fact that the latest version of Quicktime fully supports Dolby Digital, makes the QT AC3 codec a little obsolete. However if you are running an older version of Quicktime you might find it handy.
The component is very easy to install and once set up works automatically with Quicktime without you having to worry about it. This is why, if in doubt, I suggest to install it, as at least you'll be guaranteed that any AC3 file will work. The QT AC3 codec ensures you have no trouble playing Dolby Digital audio.
